- Overview of position
- Our client in Somalia is supporting the capacity building of the Somali Police Force (SPF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams through training & mentoring. To enhance national self reliance & sustainability, they are seeking a highly experienced IEDD Instructor to conduct training & delivery of a Train the Trainer (ToT) program for SPF EOD personnel & upgrading the existing trained SPF EOD trained personnel to IEDD level.
- Role objectives
- The IEDD Instructor will be responsible for delivering IEDD training to SPF EOD teams & building the local Instructor capacity through ToT programs. The selected candidate will oversee practical & theoretical training modules, ensuring compliance with United Nations (UN) Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (IEDD) standards, International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) & best practices in Counter IED (C-IED_ operations. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Delivered comprehensive IEDD training packages, combining theoretical instruction & practical field exercises, aligned with our clients guidelines & international best practices.
- Developed & institutionalized a structured ToT program, resulting in a sustainable national Instructors.
- Enhanced operational readiness of SPF EOD personnel through consistent mentorship & On the Job Training (OJT), ensuring adherence to SOPs.
- Strengthened national capacity in EOD / IEDD threat mitigation, search operations & tactical response planning for IED incidents through targeted training interventions.
- Improved individual & team performance through quality assurance assessments, with detailed evaluations & actionable recommendations for continued professional development.
- Supported the selection & procurement of IEDD equipment, ensuring compatibility with operational requirements & field conditions.
- Produced detailed training reports & post training assessment summaries, including tailored recommendations for course adjustments & long term capacity building.
- Facilitated coordination between our client, Somali Security Forces (SSF) & international stakeholders, contributing to improved interoperability & enhanced training outcomes.

- Skills and qualifications
- Key competencies
- IMAS Level 3+ EOD (or equivalent military certification).
- IEDD qualification.
- Certified Instructor in C-IED & search operations.
- Relevant training in ROV operation, combat engineering & explosive handling experence is desirable.
- Strong instructional & mentoring skills, with an ability to adapt training methodologies to diverse learning needs.
- Excellent communication & teamwork skills, capable of working in a multicultural & high risk environment.
- Strong organizational & problem solving skills with attention to operational details.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently & under stressful conditions.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in EOD / IEDD operations, with at least 5 years as an Instructor.
- Proven experience in training & mentoring EOD & IEDD personnel, preferably in post conflict environments.
- Experience in military logistics, procurement & management of IEDD equipment.
- Experience in counter terrorist search & IEDD operations.
- Strong background in operational quality assurance & explosive threat mitigation.
- Hands on experience in ROV operation & maintenance.
- Former experience of working in Somalia & supporting SSF is highly desirable.
- Previous Somali deployment is an asset.
- Fluency in English (written & spoken).
- Working knowledge of Somali or other local languages is an asset.
- Strong instructional & mentoring skills, with an ability to adapt training methodologies to diverse learning needs.
